Service jobs like retail, catering, and personal care cannot be outsourced because of the inherent personal interactions between the supplier and consumer.

This is a good article that discusses characteristics of jobs that make them likely/not likely to be offshored and provides some examples:

Characteristics of Jobs Most Likely to Be Moved Offshore:

- Work is highly repetitive (accounting)
- Work is predictable and well defined (customer service)
- Can be broken down into small manageable projects (software development)
- Can be turned into a routine (Tele-marketing)
- Proximity to the end customer is not important (phone based tech support of consumer products)
- End customer has already moved offshore (semiconductor sales)

Characteristics of Jobs Unlikely to Move Offshore:

- High degree of ambiguity (top management positions)
- Unpredictable (hands on technical troubleshooting)
- Understanding of the culture is critical (authoring books, marketing, comedians)
- Time is of the essence (fast product development)
- Requires a high degree of collaboration (making a movie)
- Requires close proximity to the end customer (firefighting, auto repair, dental work)
- Requires high degree of creativity and innovation (creating new products, technical breakthroughs, writing music

What You Can Do To Protect and Safeguard Your Job:

- Be the best in your field.
- Be much better than the next guy.
- Demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative.
- Market your accomplishments to your management.
- Get out of any highly repetitive jobs that do not require close proximity to the customer.
- Choose a career where the demand will be so high that even tapping into the huge, low cost labor markets of China and India will not fill all the jobs.

Examples of Jobs with Little Risk of Offshoring

Athelete
Bartender
Business Owner
Electrician
Entrepreneur
Umpire
Waiters

The movies presented some very eye-opening information. It has shown me that we, as a country and a culture are basically living on the laurels of our ancestors and not progressing as we should. We talk about improving our education system and then do nothing. We talk about taking responsibility and then do very little. We have progressed to 20th in the world. Is this progress?
Well, I know that I have been a contributer to this wrong way progress so I will try to shut up and do something positive. First things first - correct some of my procedures by obtaining some education and then work on getting others to work on their's.
Regarding jobs that I do not believe will be outsourced - Medical and Sanitation are the two that I mentioned earlier.

The future of our jobs have to be in that fields of jobs that are unable to be offshored currently. Law Enforcement, Medical, Basic Labor (construction, landscaping, mechanical). I am sure there are others, but then you have to look at what kind of job you would like. A job or a quality career.

Service industry jobs won’t be outsourced anytime soon. These include hotel employees, auto mechanics, and the like. The general gist so far is work requiring physical use of objects (you can manufacture elsewhere, but eventually someone will actually have to come into physical contact with the product).won’t be replaced anytime soon (unless we suddenly start manufacturing millions of robots). Government jobs probably won’t be outsourced either, as our government typically likes to directly employ its own citizens (not the same as contract work). Some healthcare jobs may not be outsourced, but others might (or be replaced with non-humans). A few hospitals already “employ” aides that are basically big moving storage bins for medicine, etc. However doctors aren’t allowed to do diagnoses in the U.S. without physically examining the patient (though some do anyway). Of course, as long as in-classroom instruction continues to be used, there will be at least some need for educators (not everyone wants to learn without physically being in the classroom).
